A Dedicated Writing Student: Akiro

Around this time last year, Akiro, a student whom I have been working with for six years this month, sent me a "Thanksgiving" email. Reading it, brought a smile to my face and led me to reflect on the first day I met with him at the Cupertino Library when he was in first grade.

Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you so much for all the help you have given me over the past years. I went from 17-18 editing mistakes (on Daily Paragraph Editing) to 2-3. I went from not being able to read to reading many books, and I went from not being able to write a word correctly to writing essays. Thank you so much for all this help, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Akiro

This Thanksgiving, I would like to thank you, Akiro, for being a dedicated student with an unwavering, infectious positive attitude that makes everyone you interact with feel good.

For the past six years, you have taken classes with me year-round. During the last two, you have been enrolled in three weekly classes, yet you still have always volunteered to be part of my pilot classes—enthusiastically participating in them.

Your positive attitude has not just been noticed by me but by students of mine as well, and several of them have requested to be in group classes with you! Thank you for always emitting a bright light and being so committed to learning, even throughout the pandemic.
